3,300 Sons of Iraq get civilian jobs

The commander of Baghdad operations General Aboud Kanbar announced that 3,331 Sons of Iraq (tribal fighters, members of Awakening Councils) will be hired as civil servants at 19 ministries and departments.
The announcement was made at ceremony celebrating the efforts of the Awakening Councils in fighting al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

The Iraqi government had pledged to provide jobs for the nearly 100k members of the Awakening Councils. Some 20k are believed to have been absorbed into the Iraqi security forces. The rest await civilian jobs. The issue is considered an important cornerstone for national reconciliation efforts.
